Regional Challenges Require Regional Partnerships
Aquatic connectivity project

The Northeast Florida Regional Council is proud to collaborate with the University of North Florida Institute of Environmental Research and Education (IERE) and a strong network of partners on a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation-funded study to assess aquatic connectivity across Northeast Florida.

As our region continues to grow, understanding how road-stream crossings, such as culverts and bridges, affect flooding, habitat connectivity, and infrastructure resilience is critical to making informed planning decisions. Through this collaborative effort, more than 2,300 sites across 12 Florida counties will be evaluated, providing valuable data that will help guide future infrastructure investments, strengthen coastal resilience, and improve aquatic connectivity throughout the region.

At NEFRC, we are committed to bringing partners together to advance solutions that benefit both our communities and our natural resources. We're excited to support this important initiative alongside the University of North Florida, The Pew Charitable Trusts, St. Johns River Water Management District, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, North Florida Land Trust, and Jacksonville University.
